Position Summary

Mechanics are responsible for repairing and maintaining various mechanical equipment.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Analyze, troubleshoot, disassemble, repair, reassemble various construction equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems, identify, propose, and implement remedies.
  • Perform mechanical repairs and maintenance in the yard and on derrick barges and other marine vessels
  • Install, assemble, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various mechanical and hydraulic equipment; including but not limited to cranes, winches, gearboxes, clutches, and pumps
  • Reads diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals for repair and diagnostic information of hydraulic and mechanical equipment
  • Sets up mechanical equipment and assists users of equipment
  • Utilize precision measurement tools to measure angles, material thickness and small distances with calipers, squares, micrometers, and other tools
  • Provide technical support to employees on assigned tasks
  • Provide technical support (via telephone) to equipment personnel in need of assistance solving mechanical issues
  • Ensure assigned tasks are completed in a timely and cost-efficient manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Keep work areas clean and in efficient working order
  • Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
  • Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of mechanical experience
  • Trade Certification or equivalent preferred
  • Electrical experience desired
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the job site
  • Travel (by land, air, and water) to field locations is required, transportation paid.
  • Ability to work a 19 on 9 off, 12 hour rotation
  • Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot hydraulic drawings and systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and mechanical drawings
  • Proficient knowledge of proper installation procedures of rotating mechanical equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment
  • Proficient knowledge of equipment related to the construction industry
  • Ability to communicate with contractors, vendors, and other trades
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with craft workers under his/her supervision and management/supervision.
  • Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools and layout tools as well as measurement tools.

Requirements

  • Must be willing to take a post-offer physical
  • Valid Passport
  • Must possess a valid Driver's license and must have a good driving record.
  • TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential preferred
  • Ability to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work from platforms. Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow and wind.
  • Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.
  • Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders.
  • Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Performs other duties as required.
