Day Engineer - Hopper Fleet

Position Summary

Day Engineer must hold at least a 2nd Assistant Engineer (Unlimited) to support safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all engineering systems aboard a Weeks Marine hopper dredge. This role performs daily maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and watchstanding duties under the direction of the Chief Engineer. The 2AE ensures compliance with all regulatory, environmental, and company standards while contributing to the vessel’s overall dredging mission.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Engineering watchstanding — Stand engine room watches and monitor propulsion, auxiliary, and dredge‑support systems.

  • Preventive maintenance — Execute PMS tasks on engines, pumps, generators, hydraulics, and electrical systems.

  • Troubleshooting & repairs — Diagnose equipment issues and perform corrective actions to minimize downtime.

  • Dredge system support — Assist with machinery supporting dredge operations, including drag arm, pump, and hopper systems.

  • Recordkeeping — Maintain accurate logs, maintenance records, and regulatory documentation.

  • Safety & compliance — Uphold USCG, ABS, and environmental standards; participate in drills and safety meetings.

  • Team collaboration — Work closely with senior engineers and deck leadership to support vessel readiness.

Qualifications

  • VAlid MMC with 2rd Assistant Engineer Unlimited (or higher)

  • USCG Medical Certificate (STCW)

  • TWIC

  • Driver's License

  • Recent sea time in engine department roles (Dredge, OSV, towing, or similar)

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with diesel engines

  • Ability to work a 21/21 rotation and mobilize to Gulf/East Coast ports
