Position Summary

An Assistant Engineer is responsible for performing general vessel engineer duties under supervision of the Chief Engineer. 

 

Vessel Type:  Hopper Dredge - M/V Magdalen

Rotation:  21/21

Travel:  Arranged & paid for by Weeks Marine

Must be a member of or willing to join the Masters, Mates & Pilots (MMP) Union w/in 30 days of employment.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop understanding of Weeks Marine engineering, operations, policies and procedures
  • Stand engine room watch on assigned hopperf vessel
  • Perform routine engine maintenance and repairs
  • Maintain engine room daily logs
  • Maintain engine room parts inventory and stocks, as needed.
  • Transfer fuel, oil and water to and from the vessel
  • Follows company and work site safety policies/procedures and commits to an “incident and injury free” work environment 
 
 
 
 

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year experience as a licensed 3rd Assistant Engineer (preferred)
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
  • Experience in Marine Construction and Dredging (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of industry related software (preferred)
  • Must be able to understand written and verbal safety commands in English
  • Ability to work rotational 12-hour watch Ability to work 21 days on, 21 days off, revised as necessary 

Requirements

  • Valid Merchant Mariners Credentials (MMC)
  • VAlid USCG Medical Certificate
  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Driver’s license, preferred
  • Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.
  • Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders.
  • Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Performs other duties as required.
