Position Summary
Plan, lay-out, weld, install, and repair all types of structural steel products in accordance with applicable plans, specifications, welding codes and industry standards.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Ability to troubleshoot problems, identify, propose and implement remedies.
- Perform repairs and maintenance aboard dredges and other marine vessels.
- Install, assemble, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various equipment.
- Fabricate with different types of metals via torches, plasma & other related craft power tools.
- Understanding of diagrams, schematics, drawings and technical manuals for repairs and diagnostics of equipment.
- Understand and sketch complex mechanical and structural drawings.
- Utilize instruments to measure angles, material thickness and distances i.e. - squares, levels, tapes & other craft related devices.
- Regularly communicate and work with contractors, vendors, and other trades
- Ensure work areas are kept clean and well organized.
- Complete assigned tasks in a safe/productive manner.
- Follows all company and work site safety policies/procedures and commits to an “Incident and Injury Free” work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
- Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of fabrication and shipyard experience
- Technical understanding of stick, tig/mig & flux-core processes
- Experience in weld testing procedures i.e. - visual inspection, pressure testing, dye penetrant & hydrostatic.
- Understanding of ABS, OSHA, and USCG regulations related to field
- Must have reliable transportation to and from the job site
- Travel (by land, air, and water) to field locations is required, transportation paid.
- Ability to work a 50-hour work week M-F, overtime as needed
- Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with craft workers under his/her supervision and management/supervision.
- Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools and layout tools as well as measurement tools.
Requirements
- Must possess a valid Driver's license, must have a good driving record
- Required Certification (Any one of the four):
- FCAW-6GR (Preferred)
- SMAW-6GR (Preferred)
- FCAW-3G & 4G
- SMAW-3G & 4G
- TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential (preferred)
- Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.
- Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend, or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders.
- Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies, and parts, up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Performs other duties as required.
