Position Summary

Shipyard Mechanic Apprentice (Bourg Shipyard)

 

The Shipyard Mechanic Apprentice is an entry-level position at Weeks Marine’s Bourg Shipyard. This role supports daily shipyard operations by assisting skilled trades personnel in the maintenance, repair, and outfitting of vessels and marine equipment. This is a hands-on opportunity for individuals seeking to learn shipyard trades and build a long-term career in the marine construction industry, with a clear path toward becoming a Shipyard Mechanic.

Growth & Advancement Path:

This is a developmental role with advancement opportunities based on performance, attendance, and training progress.  The candidate is encouraged to grow into a Mechanic role which includes working on diesel engines, hydraulics, and mechanical systems

Weeks Marine offers hands-on training, trade-specific learning opportunities, and support for advancement into long-term marine construction careers.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Assist senior craft mechanics with tools, materials, and basic tasks

Perform general labor duties including loading/unloading, material handling, and site cleanup

Support rigging setups, equipment staging, and mechanical prep work under supervision

Operate basic hand and power tools safely and correctly

Maintain worksite cleanliness and ensure materials are properly stored or disposed of

Follow all safety rules, procedures, and wear appropriate PPE

Participate in on-the-job training and job shadowing opportunities

Complete assigned safety, equipment, and trade-skills training modules

Perform other related duties as assigned by foreman or supervisor

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED

Must be at least 18 years old

Fluent use and understanding of the verbal and written English language

Willingness to learn and take direction

Basic knowledge of tools and mechanical systems is a plus

Strong work ethic, punctuality, and teamwork required

Must pass pre-employment drug screen

Requirements

Must be able to tolerate working at heights, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels

​​Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend, or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders that have capacity limits of 300 lbs.

​​Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies, and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted

Must be capable of working outside in the elements.
