Position Summary

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and navigation of a dredge while supervising the deck crew.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Navigation of dredge.
  • Communication with traffic in the area of a dredge.
  • Maintain the dredge’s position while dredging.
  • Provide instructions to the Drag tender by directing the loading and discharging of dredge material.
  • Maintain logs.
  • Update and correct navigational charts, publications, and other regulations.
  • Inspect lifesaving and firefighting equipment aboard the dredge.
  • Assist the Dredge Captain and field personnel to keep production high and downtime to a minimum.
  • Supervise and assist the deck crew performing maintenance duties during periods when the dredge is in an idle status.
  • Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
  • Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies and explain and take any corrective action needed.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work 12 hours per day.
  • Ability to work 21 days on, 21 days off, revised as necessary.
  • Dredging experience (preferred) .
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with craft workers under his/her supervision and management/supervision.

Requirements

  • MMC w/ at least 3rd Mate Unlimited endorsements
  • TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential 
  • STCW Medical certificate
  • Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.
  • Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders.
  • Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Performs other duties as required.
