Position Summary

A Welder Helper assists welders by preparing materials, setting up equipment, pulling welding leads as needed, and cleaning the workspace. They perform tasks that require less expertise but are crucial for the successful completing of welding projects.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Cutting, bending, and preparing metal pieces for welding, as well as cleaning and grinding welds.

Setting up and maintaining welding equipment, tools and supplies.

Adhering to all safety procedures and regulations, and identifying potential hazards. 

Cut material for fabrication using hand torches.

Use grinders to clean pipe ends to be welded and to clean welds throughout the welding process. Demonstrate workmanship and maintain grind within the weld groove.

Assist in the fit of materials using clamps, squares, tape measures, and levels to assure proper pipe assembly.

Ensuring a clean and safe work environment by removing debris, cleaning equipment, and organizing materials.

Qualifications

•    May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
•    Must possess knowledge skills and abilities for position
•    Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision
•    Field experience in chosen craft discipline
•    Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools and layout tools.

Requirements

•    Able to meet all physical requirements. 
•    Must have all required tools
•    Expected to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces (may exceed 200 ft)
•    Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
•    Able to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required by the workload
•    Observe and comply with all safety and project rules. Performs other duties as required.
